Who Can Participate
The ASPE Program is recruiting individuals who have or may have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), those with NRXN1 gene variants or deletions, as well as a control group consisting of individuals with no history of clinical or self-diagnosis of ASD.
Extended family members may include children ages 3 years and over. Our research team is especially interested in families with multiple individuals with ASD. We welcome all inquiries regarding research eligibility.
Autism Spectrum Disorder
The ASPE Program is recruiting adults and children ages 3 years and over with a diagnosis (or suspected diagnosis) of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) without intellectual disability. This may include individuals with Asperger syndrome, pervasive developmental disorder (PDD-NOS) and social communication disorder.
Individuals who are not on the autism spectrum (“Control” group)
In addition to recruiting individuals on the autism spectrum and with specific gene variants, the ASPE Program is also recruiting adults and children 3 years and over with no lifetime history of diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and/or intellectual disability (ID). Our study of ASD will be facilitated by being able to also study people who are not on the autism spectrum as a “control” (i.e. comparison) group. Individuals in the control group should not have a history of various developmental or psychiatric conditions, and should not have a first-degree relative who is on the autism spectrum.
NRXN1
The ASPE Program is also recruiting adults and children ages 3 years and over with a NRXN1 gene variant or a 2p16.3 copy number variant (e.g. deletion). Individuals with a NRXN1 gene variant do not need an ASD diagnosis (or suspected diagnosis) to participate. Additionally, we are recruiting individuals with a NRXN1 mutation both with and without intellectual disability.
